Our Programs

Gelding Grant Program

One Horse At A Time, Inc. enthusiastically offers grants to cover tor assist in the cost of gelding. This is the program that we are most proud of and that we feel has the greatest impact on the issue of displaced horses. Turning stallions and colts with the potential to breed into geldings not only cuts down on backyard and accidental breeding, but also gives these horses a better chance of adoption into long term or forever homes. Since OHAAT’s inception we have been able to create over 1000 new geldings through our individual grants and funding of gelding clinics. This has made a tremendous impact and we are very proud.

Emergency Medical/Feed Assistance

One Horse At A Time, Inc also provides a limited number of grants to help in emergency (life and death) situations.  Our maximum grant in these situations is $350.  These grants are considered on an individual basis.  If you are faced with an emergency and have exhausted all other avenues (go fund me, Care Credit, etc.) please reach out to us.

Grant and Rescue Philosophy

OHAAT was established to help pool resources and assist rescues financially. We are here for emergencies and do not have the funding to supply operating budgets to rescues or individuals. Please remember that if you rescue a horse you will need to provide for routine dental, vet and farrier care. Often the cost to feed will be higher if the animal is in poor condition. Sometimes there will be a need for diagnostic testing. These are things to be considered before you bring the horse home. OHAAT does not exist to bank roll your rescue activities, we exist as a safety net for horses, rescues and the equine community. We struggle to find funds to give to those in need so we are very careful with our donor money. OHAAT should be a place of last resort. If you have other ways to raise the funds please do so before applying to us. Consider that many do not have other options and we are their last hope.

Additionally, if you receive a grant from us we ask that you pay it forward. How can you pay it forward? Share our fundraisers and our story. Donate if you can, when you can. Volunteer at a local reputable rescue. There are many ways to help and not all of them require money, a lot of things just require your time. Horses are hard work, rescuing is even harder. The smallest task you perform could have a huge impact. As Penny likes to say, if everyone picks up a shovel we can move mountains.
